Engineering Specifications (Schedule H)

Schedule H to the Subdivision Bylaw covers engineering specifications where you will find information on the design and installation of:

  • Sanitary sewers, storm drains and waterworks.
  • Roadways, sidewalks and street lighting.

It also covers other works and services within the municipal road allowance and statutory rights of way, including servicing of:

  • New fee-simple subdivisions
  • Industrial, Commercial, Mixed-Use and Residential Development Projects, including Small-Scale Multi Unit Housing (SSMUH)
  • Municipal properties

Fire Flow Requirements: Under Schedule H to the Subdivision Bylaw, development projects are subject to ensuring that adequate water supply exists in the area with respect to fire protection, in accordance with the Water Supply for Public Fire Protection Guide by Fire Underwriters Survey (FUS). For additional information, including the District’s supplemental guidance information for Smale Scale Multi-Unit Housing (SSMUH), see our Fire Flow Requirements webpage.

Stormwater Management Systems: In August 2023, the District of Saanich published a new Intensity-Duration-Frequency Curve (IDF) in the Saanich Engineering Specifications (Schedule H of the Subdivision Bylaw No. 7452) as standard drawing DES-10 in Section 3.9 Design Drawings. Revisions to Schedule ‘F’ of the same bylaw were also added to provide opportunities for on-site stormwater management and disposal for residential properties, where no storm sewer is present in the roadway fronting the property. Since this time, we have received feedback and questions on the application of these documents.
