Summer weekends are made to get out and enjoy this beautiful place we call home! 
Here are a few suggestions to fill your weekend with fun:

Thursday August 18

Music in the Bay goes country this week as we welcome local act Chick Wagon. Join us at Cadboro-Gyro Park for this free outdoor concert from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Use your Access Pass (or pay a low drop-in rate) to join Cycle and Strength at Gordon Head Recreation Centre. You set the intensity in this class, all fitness levels welcome!

Friday August 19

Get your stretch on and start your weekend grounded at Drop-in Yoga This reserved drop-in class runs 5:30 – 6:30 pm at Gordon Head Recreation Centre and is included in your Saanich Recreation Access Pass! Book online or call to reserve your space. 

Your pup will appreciate a trip to one of our current Pop-Up Dog Park locations, Now at Fowler, Horner & Hyacinth parks. These leash-optional spaces are open daily from 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. for fido’s enjoyment!

It’s the last weekend to check out Coastlines, an exhibit by Maggie Wilson, at the Gallery at Cedar Hill Recreation Centre. The Gallery is open during regular facility hours at Cedar Hill and this show closes Monday, August 22.

Youth-Only Swim returns tonight, and only for ages 8 to 18 years-old. Waves, diving boards, slide and more! Proof of age required upon admission. And don’t forget that these sessions are included in the Summer Swim ‘n’ Skate Pass for children & youth!  

Saturday August 20

Register to join the BC Epilepsy Society for their Victoria Picnic in the Park Event, 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Cadboro-Gyro Park. Learn more about how the Society serves British Columbians living with epilepsy and their families, engage with other community members and enjoy food, games and more! Pre-registration is required, please visit the Eventbrite page (linked above) to learn more.

A ride for everyoneRyder Hesjedal's Tour de Victoria showcases the best cycling routes of the Capital region and welcomes hundreds of local and out-of-town cyclists. All bikes are welcome and there are seven different distance options from 15-160km, including a free kids ride around the Legislature. Register to ride or join those cheering from anywhere along the route!

Cool off in the pool at SCP when you join us  Family Swim from 8:00 – 1:00 p.m. or a Fun Swim (waves, slides & diving boards) from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. 

The name says it all - it’s an Everyone Welcome Skate at GR Pearkes Recreation Centre today from 12:15 – 1:30 p.m. AND, if you have one of our Summer Swim ‘n’ Skate passes, not only is your admission covered—so are your skate rentals! Come on down.

Sunday August 21

Everyone is welcome to join the Punjabi Cultural Association of Victoria for their Punjabi Mela from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Beckwith Park. Enjoy traditional food, music and dance. This is a free, family-friendly event.  

Kick your fitness up a level at SCP Step reserved drop-in from 9:00 – 10:15 a.m. This advanced step aerobics class features combinations and patterns of creative choreography that will get your heart rate up and burn calories. Modifications available to accommodate all fitness levels.

Need a recertification on your National Lifeguard Waterpark qualification? There’s still space for candidates with an expring (or expired) credential in this course running from 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Sign up today!

Cool off in the pool at SCP when you join us  Family Swim from 8:00 – 1:00 p.m. or a Fun Swim (waves, slides & diving boards) from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. 

It's always fun to hop on the ice at GR Pearkes during an Everyone Welcome Skate (12:15 – 1:30 p.m.), Adult Skate & Figure Skate 19yrs+ (4:45 – 6:00 p.m.) or Reserved Drop In Stick & Puck 19yrs+ (6:15 – 7:30 p.m.). See the full schedule. 

Roll on to great tunes by a live DJ at Roller Skate Victoria’s Lambrick Sunset Summer Skate Series at Lambrick Park from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m! Skate rentals available. Admission and skate rentals can be purchased through Roller Skate Victoria

All Weekend Long

Visit Saanich Municipal Hall anytime during regular business hours to view Al Fatiha: The Opening, presented by Voices of Muslim Women Foundation. This free exhibit is an invitation to the communities of Victoria and Saanich to view local work along with works from private collections that explore themes of prayer, identity, belonging, resilience, spirituality and new beginnings.

The new, FREE, Saanich Heritage Passport is available to pick up during regular business hours at Municipal Hall. Grab yours and take a walking tour of seven heritage buildings and one structure located in the Saanich core area.

Enjoy a lap or two around Tripp Station Youth Park, Saanich’s newest bike skills park. Riders of all ages will love the pump track, jumps and skills trails. Open 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. daily at 4050 Lochside Dr.

A great way to stay active and connected this summer—and any time—is by volunteering. We have many great opportunities for you to do good and feel great because of it! Check out the Saanich Volunteer Opportunities page on our website if you have time you could share with our community!

Did you know that you can reserve space in our parks? You can book picnic tables for picnics and parties or sports fields (if available) for fun and games! Saanich’s 170+ parks have multiple areas in parks you can reserve. Check our website for more information.

Want to play tennis without the weather worry? Remember that you can book an indoor tennis court  at Cedar Hill Recreation Centre for just $15/hr this summer! Courts available Weekdays from 4:30-8pm and Weekends from 8am-4pm. Call reception to book 250-475-7121

Please note that Gordon Head Recreation Centre will be closed Saturdays and Sundaysin July and August as part of our ongoing construction project. We can’t wait to welcome you back into the pool soon!
