Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department

We are a vital part of our vibrant, active community. Serving well over 2 million visitors annually Saanich Parks, Recreation and Community Services touches the lives of thousands of Saanich residents each day. We deliver a diverse array of services, programs, events and festivals that enriches the quality of life in our community. Our facilities and amenities include 4 recreation centres, 3 teen centres, 170 parks, 100+ kilometers of trails, arts centre and an 18-hole golf course.

Recreation Division

The Recreation division is responsible for the provision of programs, services and facilities focused on active living, healthy lifestyles and building community. This is done through the four community recreation centres. The centres offer various features including aquatics, fitness, ice sports, activity areas for youth and seniors, weight room areas, gymnasiums, tennis, art spaces and multipurpose rooms. Community services facilitates activities in the arts, accessibility programming, youth and seniors programs and supports major community events.

Community Services Division

Community Services supports access to programs and facilities for older adults, those with disabilities or low income, promotes multiculturalism, provides leadership and volunteer opportunities for youth, hosts special events, and promotes healthy, active lifestyles.

Cedar Hill Golf Course

Cedar Hill Golf Course is a 5,200 yard, 18 hole, par 67 course located in scenic Cedar Hill Park [PDF - 203 KB]. In addition to the golf course itself, this facility offers a licensed, light food and beverage operation, is surrounded by a chip trail and provides access to King’s Pond natural area. Cedar Hill offers a unique, convenient golf experience for players of all areas and skill levels.

Parks Division

Our Parks division oversees the large expanse of public green space that includes natural areas, sports fields, playgrounds, trails, the urban forest, beach accesses, boulevard maintenance and invasive species control. The division balances varying interests relating to usage, conservation and preservation and is responsible for the planning, design, development and operation of more than 820 hectares of parkland. This provides residents with various opportunities for outdoor activities and enjoyment while at the same time enhancing the Saanich environment.
