The Viewmont tennis courts will be replaced in 2025. After a condition assessment, resurfacing and repairing the courts will ensure their longevity in the community.
Updates
Construction is underway at Viewmont Tennis Courts. In removing the old court surface, the court’s foundation was discovered to be unstable. (The court failed a technical “loaded truck roll” test). This means that additional excavation and removal of subgrade material are required to meet base stability requirements, resulting in an additional month’s worth of work added to the project timeline.
Due to the base repair work, the courts are anticipated to open mid-summer rather than early summer. The one-month delay in reopening the tennis courts to the Saanich Tennis Club and the public will be communicated directly to the club and on Saanich’s website. Saanich Parks is committed to providing a high-quality tennis facility at this location and wants to ensure this project meets our standards for the benefit of the community for years to come.
Phase I
Phase I of the Viewmont Tennis Courts Improvements will be the replacement of the tennis courts. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2025 and take a couple of months to complete. The new courts will be ready for play by mid-summer and designated for tennis use only.
Phase II
Phase II of the project will include parking lot improvements, including tree pruning for visibility and access. A gravel trail will connect the courts to the new formalized gravel parking area, with curb stops and a gate installed. Construction of Phase II is anticipated to begin in fall 2025.
