Murals

Murals bring large-scale, accessible artwork into our public spaces and places, enhancing our neighbourhoods, and enriching our community. They foster a sense of place, pride, and belonging. They can also create opportunities to celebrate our diverse cultures and histories and provide opportunities for artists to engage with communities and develop their practice.

The District of Saanich defines murals as artwork painted or applied directly on a wall or other large permanent surface, and which typically cover the whole wall or a large part of it.

Community Mural Program
The Community Mural Program aims to add community vibrancy and placemaking opportunities through the development of outdoor murals throughout Saanich. New initiatives under development include:

  1. Updates to the existing process to request to install a mural in Saanich.
  2. A new Community Canvas Mural Grant Program that will offer matching grant opportunities to eligible organizations to support the creation of murals in Saanich.

Stay tuned for updates, and sign up for our Artists Updates List to receive information as it is released.
