Making the most of summertime in Saanich
May 14, 2026
Information Bulletin
For immediate release
Saanich, BC – There are many ways to enjoy Saanich parks this summer – as the May long weekend kicks off some of our favourite activities!
Make a splash!
Looking to stay cool? Zip through the District’s splash pads at Rutledge Park and Beckwith Park starting this weekend. Weather permitting, both splash pads will open to the public on Saturday, May 16, 2026, running daily from 10:00am-7:00pm through mid-October.
Visitors to the Rutledge Park splash pad may notice crews periodically testing and fine-tuning the new dechlorination system. Don’t worry, it won’t disrupt the fun!
Picnics and parties and private tables, oh my!
Planning a summer picnic or party? You can reserve space in our parks, including picnic tables or sports fields (if available) for your gathering. Get all the details on our Park Reservations page.
Peep, but don’t keep
It’s natural to feel a sense of wonder and awe as flowers bloom and native plants thrive in our parks – but please take a photo to remember their beauty, rather than picking or removing these special species.
Can’t resist the ‘pull?’ Consider putting that energy into removing invasive plants instead! Join our Pulling Together team of volunteers today.
Sun, sand, surf... and seasonal bylaws
As more people hit the beach to catch some rays, seasonal Animal Bylaw restrictions are underway to help everyone enjoy these areas safely.
All beaches and beach access within the Victoria Migratory Bird Sanctuary are on-leash. Beaches outside of the Victoria Migratory Bird Sanctuary remain leash-optional except for the following seasonal restrictions:
- Cordova Bay Beach between Walema Avenue right-of-way to Cordova Bay Park:
- Dogs are allowed before 9:00 am, during the months of May through August.
- At all other times of day from May through August, dogs are prohibited.
- Whitehead Park (entire park, including the beach):
- Dogs are always prohibited during the months of May through August.
- PKOLS (Mount Douglas Park) beach and park area near the beach:
- Dogs are always prohibited during the months of May through August.
