Run for office in Saanich

Nomination packages are now available for District of Saanich candidates for the offices of Mayor and Councillor, and 63 (Saanich) School Trustee. 

Packages can be picked up at the Legislative Services Division, Municipal Hall, 770 Vernon Avenue during regular business hours (weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.).  You can also request a package via email at elections@saanich.ca.  

Nomination packages and other information for School District 61 (Greater Victoria) School Trustee candidates are available through the School District's website.  

Nomination documents must be filed during the Nomination Period, which runs from Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 9 a.m. to Friday, September 11, 2026 at 4 p.m.  Documents will not be accepted outside of this period.

Appointments to file Nomination Documents are strongly recommended.  Please call 250-475-5501 or email elections@saanich.ca to make an appointment.

To run in the election, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older on general election day
  • Be a Canadian citizen
  • Have lived in BC for at least 6 months before the day you file your nomination papers
  • Not be disqualified by law from being nominated, elected, or holding office
Other Important Information
  • You do not need to be a resident of the District of Saanich to run for office in Saanich.
  • You must be nominated by ten (10) qualified Saanich electors to run for the office of Mayor or Councillor.
  • You must be nominated by two (2) qualified Saanich electors to run for the office of School Trustee.
