We are currently undergoing updates for two Local Area Plans:
Initiation of new Local Area Plan updates paused to focus on housing priorities and policies
On December 16, 2019 Council voted to pause initiation of new Local Area Plans to focus planning resources on priorities and policies to increase the supply, diversity and affordability of housing, including the new housing strategy, housing needs assessment and service delivery review. These housing initiatives will serve to provide foundational information and direction that will be used to inform the future update of Local Area Plans.
In progress Local Area Plan updates in Cadboro Bay and Cordova Bay will continue as planned, but new updates will not be initiated at this time.
How Saanich is updating its Local Area Plans
On September 11, 2017, Council approved a program to update all Saanich Local Area Plans. The updated plans will help provide direction for growth and change in neighbourhoods and implement the directions of the Official Community Plan.
Each Local Area planning process will have intensive community involvement and will take approximately 18-24 months to complete. Local Area Plans will be updated according to the following schedule, with new plan updates to commence once housing related work is completed.
- Underway – Cordova Bay, Cadboro Bay
- North Quadra, Quadra
- Gordon Head, Carey
- Royal Oak, Tillicum
- Shelbourne, Blenkinsop
- Rural Saanich
On November 25, 2019 a report was presented to Council on the status of community planning work and lessons learned and re-confirmed from initial Local Area Plan (LAP) processes.
