School Year WYLD Program
Are you interested in opportunities to work with kids and community? Do you love special events and want to help behind the scenes? What about learning skills for interviews, first aid and professional communication? Youth enrolled in this program will have the opportunity to participate in special workshops and programs that will help grow your leadership journey.
Important Information
- This program meets monthly for workshops and seminars. These workshops and seminars are open to anyone who registers for this program. Participants must be flexible to program offerings being held on different days of the week as well as different locations. Workshops and seminars will be offered based on location availability. The dates, locations and times will be sent to participants October 1, 2025.
- Special event and registered children's program participation will be by invitation only and prioritized for youth who received a PASS+ upon completion of WYLD Step One - Summer 2025. Youth selected to participate in special events will be contacted by a WYLD Coordinator. WYLD Leaders must demonstrate professionalism, maturity and an overall readiness to participate in public events under the supervision of a WYLD mentor.
- Registered participants are welcome to join any of the workshops and seminars set out by WYLD coordinators. The workshops and seminars will include the following topics: Resume building, interview preparation, first aid, team building 101, beach clean up's, day camp leader 101, professional communication and so much more.
- The commitment level for this program is completely up to each individual. Participants are welcome to come to one workshop or, all of them.
- Youth registered for this program must have their own email address and be prepared to communicate with the WYLD Coordinators independently.
- The school year session of the WYLD Program is registration based and does not require an application.
- Registering for the school year program DOES NOT guarantee acceptance into the Summer 2026 WYLD Program.

WYLD Leadership Summer Program
So, you’ve heard about a WYLD Leadership program in the community and you’re thinking, “what is that all about?” Look no further, the information below has you overed.
Are you interested in spending your summer working with kids? Do you want to be a leader in your community? Let us help guide you in your leadership and skill building journey.
Join us for a meaningful mentored placement. Spend your days learning applicable skills for a summer camp job, instructing swimming lessons, or working specialty programs and beyond. You'll learn to lead and play all the best games, gain confidence in planning activities with groups, and cover all the important aspects of working in a team environment. You will work closely with our leadership coordinators and staff mentors during your summer placement. The guided curriculum will help youth set goals and reflect on this meaningful hands-on experience.
This program is an excellent steppingstone for individuals who are considering a future in the fields of Recreation, Early Childhood Education, Teaching, Child & Youth Care, Social Work, Counselling, Human Services, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Pathologist, Physiotherapist, First Responder, Medical Care, and so much more.
Program placements are located at multiple different Summer Camp locations. Including, outdoor playground camps and recreation centres. WYLD Leaders must be flexible in their ability to complete their placement at either location. The one-day Police Leadership Certificate is located at The Saanich Police Department.
