Call to Poets: Expression of Interest

The District of Saanich has extended the call for Expressions of Interest from all published and performance poets for our Community Poets Program through our website.

The Community Poet has an important role in highlighting the positive impact of poetry, spoken word and the literacy arts.  This role will foster community connections through initiatives that celebrate the people and places in Saanich and engage with community and inspire participation.

We welcome and encourage applications from poets of all backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences. We are committed to fostering a program that reflects the diversity of our community, including but not limited to differences in age, culture, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, language, and socio-economic background. Your unique voice and perspective enrich the creative landscape of Saanich.

Call for Selection Committee Members

2026 Community Poets Program  
Deadline December 1, 2025 

The District of Saanich invites poets, literary professionals and community members to join the Selection Committee Roster for the 2026 Community Poets Program.

Members play a vital role in ensuring a fair, thoughtful, and transparent process for choosing the incoming Community Poet and Community Youth Poet. A small honorarium will be provided.

Qualifications and Skills
We are seeking up to three committee members who bring:

• Experience or expertise in the literary arts, including poetry, spoken word, or related disciplines.
• Background in community and/or youth engagement, including involvement in educational settings or mentorship.
• Ability to provide thoughtful, objective, and constructive feedback on literary works.
• Experience serving on selection committees, juries, or advisory panels is considered an asset.

2026 Saanich Exhibition Program

The District of Saanich invites individual artists, collectives, and community group exhibitions from local and regional communities to apply for our window gallery space at Saanich Municipal Hall as part of our 2026 exhibition program. We are proud to showcase a wide range of artistic practices and creative exploration at all stages of development, and we welcome submissions from individuals and groups of all backgrounds and lived experiences.
