What you’ll work on:
You’ll perform journey-level mechanical work on a wide variety of municipal vehicles and equipment. The role includes inspection, diagnostics, repair, maintenance, and related work involving:
- heavy duty equipment
- commercial trucks
- automotive vehicles
- diesel systems
- electric vehicles
- welding, electrical, maintenance, and body refinishing work
Who should apply:
- Certified Heavy Duty, Commercial Transport, or Automotive Mechanics
- Newly certified mechanics looking to build broad fleet experience
- 4th or 3rd year apprentices who have not yet received Red Seal certification but are close to completion
Preferred backgrounds include Heavy Duty or Commercial Transport certification, strong diagnostic ability using computerized scan tools, and experience working safely within applicable regulations and standards.
What you bring:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Trades Qualification Certificate and Certificate of Apprenticeship in Commercial Transport, Automotive, or Heavy Duty Mechanics
- Four years of related experience, including apprenticeship experience
- BC Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program Inspector’s Authorization Certificate
- ARC and MIG welding training and/or equivalent experience
- Valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement
Automotive mechanics with BC CVIP authorization and air brake endorsement may be preferred.
Ideal candidates will have the required knowledge to perform diagnostics on a variety of equipment using computerized scan tools; extensive knowledge of WCB regulations, WHMIS, and the Motor Vehicle Act; and a willingness to attend in-service training programs offered at Saanich or other authorized agencies.
Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Will consider hiring 4th or 3rd year apprentices that may not have received their Red Seal (Certified Heavy Duty and / or Commercial Transport) certification. As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted.
