Working at the Election

We are hiring election workers for the upcoming 2026 general local election!

Join the election team and take on the important task of working on election day (Saturday, October 17, 2026) and advance voting opportunities (October 7, 13 and 14, 2026).

There are 4 roles to support the election:

Employee requirements

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Be legally entitled to work in British Columbia.
  • Be responsible for their own transportation to and from their voting place.
  • Attend a mandatory training session.
  • Not be related to any candidate running for office in the municipal election.
  • Not be actively working for any election campaign or any candidate.
  • Be comfortable using a laptop with online software (VoterView)
  • Be able to work extended hours on General Voting Day (7 a.m. to 9 p.m.)

Positions

Presiding Election Official (PEO) - limited positions available - Job Description [PDF - 187 KB]

  • Maintain the integrity of the election process
  • Coordinate setup of designated voting location
  • Provide clear guidance and supervision throughout the day

Alternate Presiding Election Official (APEO) - limited positions available Job Description [PDF - 122 KB]

  • Provide assistance and backup to the Presiding Election Official
  • Assist Presiding Election Official in set up of designated voting location
  • Supervise other workers in the voting location

  • Assist all voters in a pleasant, polite and friendly manner for a positive voter experience
  • Perform voter strike off on the laptop
  • At the close of the poll, accurately balance and complete a ballot account form

Machine Attendant - Job Description [PDF - 185 KB]

  • Instruct voters how to insert ballot into vote counting machine (tabulator)
  • Assist with cleanup at the close of the poll and secure all election materials
