Saanich, BC – The updated Shelbourne Valley Plan (SVP) has been adopted by Saanich Council, confirming the long-term vision for the future of this vibrant community.

The updated plan refreshes the original 2017 Shelbourne Valley Action Plan and brings it into alignment with Saanich’s current Official Community Plan and other Council-approved plans and policies adopted in recent years. It also reflects changing demographics and community needs, with a stronger focus on climate resilience.

The SVP will help guide growth and change in one of Saanich’s key urban areas over the coming decades – supporting complete, connected and livable neighbourhoods while reinforcing the community’s distinct character and sense of place.

The plan takes a more integrated approach to long-term planning by considering how land use, public spaces, infrastructure, natural systems and community well-being work together. It also places greater emphasis on housing diversity, planning considerations on unique sites, and linking land use and transportation improvements.

“This updated plan provides a strong foundation for the future of the Shelbourne Valley and for the people who live, work, learn and gather there,” says Saanich Mayor Dean Murdock. “It reflects today’s realities, responds to community input, and helps ensure that as the area evolves, it does so in a way that supports livability, resilience and environmental stewardship.”

The updated plan builds on years of planning, technical work and community engagement. It is intended to support coordinated decision-making over the long term and ensure the Shelbourne Valley continues to develop in a way that benefits both current and future residents.
