Saanich invites resident feedback on Draft 2026 Climate Plan
May 7, 2026
Information Bulletin
For immediate release
Saanich, BC – The District of Saanich is encouraging residents to read the Draft 2026 Climate Plan and share their feedback by completing an online survey.
The District has made significant progress towards goals set out in the 2020 Climate Plan. Most of the actions set out in the Plan have either been completed or are well underway, including an 18% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the 2007 baseline.
Why a Climate Plan update?
An updated Climate Plan will confirm what actions are needed to enable Saanich to meet its 2030 and 2050 goals. This update accounts for major changes in global and local contexts, including more extreme weather events, a housing and affordability crisis, and increasing political and economic uncertainty.
The draft Plan builds on five years of engagement with the public and stakeholders on climate-related actions and programs, and has been informed by a range of research, data analysis, community engagement and collaboration, including:
- A Community Climate Hazard and Resilience Assessment (Draft 2026);
- a Corporate Climate Risk Assessment (coming soon in 2026);
- information shared by First Nations, technical experts, key stakeholders, community representatives and the public; and
- extensive community engagement, including equity-centered engagement led by a community-based organization.
The Phase 1 engagement reports and other supporting documents are available at saanich.ca/climateplan.
Public engagement
Residents are invited to review the draft Plan and share feedback to inform the final 2026 Climate Plan.
The survey should take participants around 10-15 minutes to complete and will be open until 12:00 p.m. on May 22, 2026. All responses are anonymous.
