Saanich Commonwealth Place Reopening Timeline Update

October 17, 2025

The District of Saanich is providing an update on its annual maintenance closure and extended aquatic closure at Saanich Commonwealth Place (SCP). The closures began on August 25, 2025 to allow for annual maintenance and the installation of the new water slide.

Repairs to the competition pool are nearing completion and it will reopen for public and high-performance access on Monday, October 20. Updated competition pool schedules can be found online at saanich.ca/swim.

Other work in the aquatic facility is progressing well, but the wave, teach, tots and dive pools, as well as the hot tub, sauna, and steam room remain closed for the construction of the new water slide and structural remediation work. Due to necessary finishing work, the anticipated reopening date for these areas has been extended to Wednesday, November 12.

Subsequently, the resumption of registered aquatic programming in these spaces — including swimming lessons — will also be delayed. Registered participants will be contacted by email and will receive credit for any missed classes once session start dates are confirmed.

Saanich Access Pass holders may continue to access aquatic facilities at Gordon Head Recreation Centre, as well as other regional pools, by presenting their pass with a valid sticker. Stickers are available at Saanich Commonwealth Place and Gordon Head Recreation Centre.

The District recognizes the inconvenience the delay will cause and thanks patrons for their patience during this work, which will result in a number of important improvements so our community can continue to enjoy this fantastic facility for many years to come.
