People, Pets, and Parks Strategy approved

Saanich, BC – Saanich Council unanimously approved the People, Pets, and Parks Strategy and its proposed five-year implementation plan during a Special Council Meeting last night.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in the various public engagement sessions leading up to last night’s meeting.

The People, Pets and Parks strategy, grounded in community values, offers a new comprehensive, evidence-based, public policy approach for sharing Saanich’s parks. It will improve clarity, recognize diverse needs, reduce conflicting uses, and protect environmental values. Its Vision, Principles, and Guidelines reflect community voices heard throughout the process.

Ultimately, Saanich parks are for everyone. Pets are a welcome part of the community, and both people and pets benefit from outdoor recreation and use of public parks. The strategy will help achieve a balanced approach for sharing Saanich parks.

Next Steps

Implementation of the strategy will begin with an amendment to the Animal Bylaw, anticipated for the fall.
