Environment Canada's snow fall warning is still in effect for Greater Victoria

January 15, 2020

Saanich crews worked around the clock focusing on the priority snow and ice routes. All major and collectors routes are in passable winter driving conditions. Residential streets have significant snow accumulations and are in poor winter driving conditions.

Priority routes include:
  • Emergency access routes
  • Major roads
  • Priority bus routes
  • Steep residential hills
  • Priority sidewalks and bridges

Our focus this morning will be on widening and cleaning up priority routes, then if weather permits, shifting into residential areas.

We anticipated an increase in transit ridership today and crews were out at 4:30 a.m. clearing major transit hubs and pedestrian overpasses. Refuse/organic collection service has been canceled today.

We will be providing updates to residents via saanich.ca and our social media accounts (Facebook and Twitter).

Don’t forget that property owners are responsible for clearing snow from sidewalks in front of their properties and are encouraged to assist neighbours when possible.
