People with Dogs

About the Artwork

People with Dogs, Street Photography with a twist.  Through this body of work, I ask people I encounter if I can take their photos with their pets. . People love their pets and feel relaxed and proud that someone is interested in them. People often show their individuality by the pets they choose. My spontaneous photography captures the owner’s authentic love and pride in their pets. Pets morph into family members, surrogate children, protectors, travelling companions or status symbols. The bond between the two transcends personality, ethnicity, finances and circumstances. Dogs possess a quality that’s rare among humans - the ability to make you feel valued for just being you.

This collection includes Black and White (B&W) photographs taken over several years. These photographs are coloured by applying oil paint and pencil crayon directly onto the prints.

About the Artist

I attended Kootenay School of Art in Nelson, BC, Emily Carr School of Art in Vancouver and the University of Victoria, (BFA).  I studied sculpture, ceramics, painting and graphic design, but not a single photography course.  Ironically, that became my lifelong passion.

My first exhibition featured Black and White prints, then other colouring methods like traditional tinting oils on stereoscopic-3D cards.

Hallway Case # 1

Little Free Poetry Library

Since 1995, Planet Earth Poetry (PEP) has been providing a celebratory space for both established and emerging poets. Consistent community support for the art of poetry over 30 years is extremely rare, not just in Canada, but throughout the world—especially at a time in human history when humans are more likely to scroll social media than crack open a poetry collection.

Planet Earth Poetry Reading Series Society provides a variety of poetry books for you to read, peruse or take / leave at the Little Free Poetry Library.   For more information, or to donate a larger quantity of poetry books, please email pepoetry2@gmail.com

Garth Homer Artworks Program

About the Artwork / Artists:

ArtWorks is an artist development program for emerging and established artists. Participants engage in a supported studio environment where they can refine their artistic skills, experiment with different mediums, and exhibit their work.

Artists spend each day working on their art, experimenting with different mediums, and refining their techniques in a professional supported studio setting. The atmosphere is relaxed yet focused, allowing participants to work at their own pace while receiving hands-on support from staff who are skilled, practicing artists. These mentors provide guidance, demonstrations, and constructive feedback to help artists push their creative boundaries and bring their visions to life.  For 2026, the ArtWorks Program will be showcasing a variety of different art in this display case, changing every 8 weeks as part of a partnership with Saanich Community Services and Cedar Hill Recreation Centre.

Barb MacLeod

About the Artwork / Artist:

Barb MacLeod was born and raised in Toronto where she received her formal art education and started her career. She became well known as a fibre artist through her gallery and commission studio in Toronto. Working with architects and designers, her fibre-art is in public, corporate and private collections in Canada and various international locations. After closing her textile studio in 2008 she began painting in acrylics and mixed media.

Her work reflects her interest in dramatic lighting found in landscapes. She uses a variety of techniques and materials to give the desired effect and continues to experiment with new ones. Her landscapes are often an amalgam of many places and an emotional response to light and its stunning effect.
