Group Exhibition

Kick Back

June 25 to July 20, 2025

About the Artwork:

Seating in Western Maple - This is an exhibition of capstone projects by the graduating class of 2024-25 Camosun
Fine Furniture Program.

About the Artists / Program:

The Camosun College Fine Furniture Program is an intensive foundation program that blends traditional and modern woodworking with a strong art and design curriculum. For most of the program’s history, learners have showcased their craft development with an exhibition mounted at the end of the program.

Camosun Fine Furniture students conceptualize, design, prototype and build a project in local western maple, or wood obtained through the Vancouver Island Woodworker’s Guild wood recovery program. The Fine Furniture program has run for 36 years at Camosun College, and is well regarded in the wider community. The program is a hybrid of trades training combined with art and design as a major focus.
Learners work on creating original works in a 10 month program.

Additional Programming / Events:

Hallway Case #3 – Jessica He

June 25 to July 20, 2025

About the Artwork:

My work primarily focuses on character-driven narratives, exploring themes of identity, emotion, and connection.
Each piece reflects my curiosity about how visual stories can evoke feelings, spark conversations, and build bridges between people. As someone who values authenticity, I strive to bring honesty and depth to every project I undertake.

About the Artists / Program:

I’m a freelance illustrator currently residing in Victoria, BC, Canada. I’m also involved in early childhood education. Drawing and spending time with children are my two greatest passions. My oil paintings are mostly inspired by children and the beautiful landscapes of Victoria.

Hallway Case #4 & Rear Window Case – Carol Thibault

June 25, to July 20, 2025

About the Artwork:

My art form is about second chances, salvaging old artwork that has been discarded and is no longer wanted for whatever reason and reimagining new possibilities on the canvas in a whimsical way. Nature’s bounty of birds and flowers are my primary inspiration. Every walk I take I see birds of different species sharing what nature has to offer. They seem to have learned how to get along just fine and provide the essence for my whimsy. We need to see images of hope, to know that despite what is happening all around us we can achieve an inner peace and calm. I want to make a difference to change someone’s day, to make someone smile, and to uplift their spirits.

About the Artist:

As a retired senior, I am blessed to have the time to create. My latest venture of collage is salvaging unwanted, damaged and unloved canvas prints and original artwork from thrift stores, flea markets, and garage sales and bringing them back to life in a whimsical and uplifting way.  I am inspired by nature’s bounty. All resources used in the collage come from recycled print materials, assorted costume jewelry and fabric ends.  The process of collecting, sorting, cutting and embellishing involves days and weeks.  My hope is that these collages will make someone smile, inspire a conversation with a stranger and live on in some other way and at some other time.
