Description:

The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking a motivated and experienced Team Leader to join the Recreation Division at Gordon Head Recreation Centre. This role supports the delivery of safe, high-quality aquatic programs and provides on-deck leadership to staff while promoting service excellence, teamwork, and a positive customer experience.

As a Team Leader – Aquatics, you will provide leadership and direction to lifeguards and aquatic instructors during assigned shifts, ensuring programs are delivered safely and effectively. You will support staff by monitoring performance, ensuring compliance with safety standards and protocols, assisting with training and scheduling, and responding to customer inquiries. The role also includes teaching and/or lifeguarding duties, overseeing facility readiness, completing reports and records, and taking a leadership role during emergency situations to ensure the safety of patrons and staff.

Requirements include completion of Grade 12; a minimum of two years of lifeguarding experience, including two years of swim instruction; National Lifeguard (Pool) certification; Standard First Aid and CPR-C; and Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Swim instructor certification. Employment is subject to the provision of a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) dated within the last six months. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends; hours and schedules are assigned seasonally by a supervisor and are subject to change based on operational need. Successful candidate will be required to work a minimum of 14 hours per week, with a targeted base of 25 hours per week where feasible. As a component of the selection process, testing may be conducted.
