The Inspection Services Division is seeking a Senior Plumbing Official to perform advanced office and field inspection work related to plumbing systems in residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional construction. This temporary opportunity will support the division during an absence and plays a key role in ensuring compliance with the BC Plumbing Code, BC Building Code, and applicable municipal bylaws, while supporting the safe and efficient delivery of development within the community.
Reporting to the Manager of Inspection Services, the Senior Plumbing Official will lead the review and processing of plumbing permit applications, determine inspection protocols, and conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans and regulations. The role provides technical expertise and guidance to Building/Plumbing Officials, supports complex inspections and plan reviews, and assists in resolving challenging code and bylaw interpretation issues. Responsibilities also include liaising with contractors, engineers, designers, and the public; responding to inquiries and complaints; supporting departmental processes and policy development; and assisting in the coordination and supervision of staff as required.
Requirements include BOABC Building Level III and POABC Plumbing Level I certification, along with a degree in engineering or architecture. A minimum of five years of directly related experience with building and plumbing codes, construction inspections, and municipal bylaws is required, including supervisory experience. Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills are essential. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
