Saanich Commonwealth Place is seeking a Recreation Receptionist Lead Hand to join the Recreation Division on a temporary full-time basis for one year. Reporting to the Administrative Supervisor or Programmer II, this position supports the daily operation of the reception desk and serves as a primary first point of contact for Recreation and Community Services programs and services. The role provides frontline customer service while helping ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery for patrons, staff, and program areas.
The Recreation Receptionist Lead Hand provides day-to-day guidance, direction, coaching, training, and support to reception, clerical, and customer service staff. Responsibilities include assisting with staff scheduling and shift backfill, onboarding, maintaining performance and service standards, resolving routine operational issues, escalating complex matters as needed, and supporting a positive and collaborative team environment. The position also assists with program registrations, membership sales, admissions, point-of-sale transactions, daily cash balancing and deposits, invoices, requisitions, cheque requests, payroll submission, records management, reports, statistics, meeting minutes, facility access, emergency response, inclement weather procedures, and backfill coverage for Facility Recreation Clerk roles as required.
Requirements include Grade 12 or equivalent, and 12 months continuous experience within the past five years working in a public-facing reception counter environment with cash handling, including receiving and processing computerized registrations or similar experience in a fast-paced customer service environment. Candidates must also have six months of general office administrative work experience and six continuous months of previous experience directing the work of others. The successful candidate will demonstrate proven supervisory or leadership skills, the ability to coordinate workloads, support team performance, and maintain a positive work environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with a computerized registration management system are required. Preference may be given to candidates with a Recreation Centre background and recreation registration software experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful candidate will work varying hours, 35 hours per week, which may include mornings, evenings, and weekends. This is a temporary full-time position for one year.
