Saanich Commonwealth Place is seeking a Programmer I - Aquatics - Lessons to support the planning, coordination, delivery and evaluation of aquatic lesson programs and related services. Reporting to a Programmer II, the Programmer I works within the Recreation Division to ensure aquatic programs are well organized, responsive to community needs and delivered with a focus on participant experience, safety, service quality and effective use of resources.
The Programmer I is responsible for creating, planning, implementing and evaluating recreation programs, services and special events within the aquatic lessons portfolio. This role recruits, orients, trains, supervises and evaluates program leadership staff; schedules and coordinates programs, facilities and staff; monitors program quality through participant feedback and evaluations; supports community and user needs analysis; prepares brochure copy and other advertising; assists with draft budget estimates; operates within approved program budgets; makes routine program purchases; and provides leadership in customer service and public relations.
Requirements include a two-year post-secondary diploma in recreation, leisure studies or a related field, along with two years of experience in program planning and staff supervision in aquatic lessons. A valid Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Trainer Certification and National Lifeguard Waterpark Certification and CPR C are required.. Employment is subject to provision of a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) check no older than 6 months. Renewal of PIC-VS is required as per policy. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful candidate will work varying hours of work and will support aquatic lesson programming needs at Saanich Commonwealth Place.
