Parks, Recreation and Community Services is seeking an enthusiastic and community-focused Programmer I – School Age to join the Recreation Division at Saanich Commonwealth Place. This role is ideal for a collaborative recreation professional who is passionate about creating innovative, safe, inclusive, and engaging programs for school age children in our community.  

Reporting to a Programmer II, the Programmer I is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating recreation programs, services and special events within the School Age Program area. The role includes recruiting, training and supervising program staff, coordinating schedules for programs and facilities, and ensuring high-quality program delivery through ongoing evaluation and participant feedback. Programmer I also develops community partnerships, supports marketing and promotional activities, prepares program materials, contributes to budget planning, and ensures programs operate effectively within established resources.

Requirements include completion of a two-year post-secondary diploma in recreation, leisure studies or a related field, along with a minimum of two years of experience in program planning and staff supervision. Candidates must demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills. Employment is subject to a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
