The District of Saanich's Parks, Recreation and Community Services department is seeking a team player to help drive our mission of Healthy Nature, Healthy People, and Healthy Community, while supporting our vision: a Saanich where everyone belongs. You’ll work within a team where service excellence, learning and knowledge sharing, and feedback and accountability are highly valued, and where communication, trust, respect, and positivity form the foundation for everything we do.
The Community Services Division – Events is seeking a motivated and organized Program Leader I to support the delivery of the Saanich Strawberry Festival. This role will act as a section lead for parking operations, supporting event logistics and ensuring safe and efficient vehicle flow throughout the venue. The successful candidate will work closely with Saanich Police Reserve members, staff, and volunteers to support a well-coordinated and positive event experience.
Under the direction of a Recreation Programmer or Program Technician, the Program Leader I will oversee parking lot operations at the event, including coordinating set-up, managing traffic flow, directing vehicles and pedestrians, and supervising a small team of staff and volunteers. Responsibilities include ensuring participant and public safety, communicating effectively with event partners, responding to operational needs, and supporting the overall success of the event. This role requires strong leadership, situational awareness, and the ability to remain calm and organized in a dynamic outdoor event environment, while providing excellent customer service to event attendees. Training will be provided.
Requirements include completion of Grade 12 and a minimum of 18 years of age; a valid class 5 drivers’ licence; a minimum of three months’ experience working in a recreational, event, or instructional setting; and demonstrated leadership, customer service, and communication skills. Experience working as a Traffic Control Person or traffic marshal at events is considered an asset. Emergency First Aid and CPR-C are required, and employment is subject to a satisfactory Police Information Check.
The successful candidate will be required to work the following schedule: Thursday, July 2 (1–2 hrs training); Saturday, July 4 (approx. 5 hrs set-up); and Sunday, July 5 (7–8 hour event day shift). Hours and schedules are subject to change based on program needs. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. As a component of the selection process, testing may be conducted. While we thank all applicants for applying, only those under consideration will be contacted.
