The District of Saanich's Parks, Recreation and Community Services department is seeking a team player to help drive our mission of Healthy Nature, Healthy People, and Healthy Community, while supporting our vision: a Saanich where everyone belongs.
You’ll work within a team where service excellence, learning and knowledge sharing, and feedback and accountability are highly valued, and where communication, trust, respect, and positivity form the foundation for everything we do.
Our Youth Services team is looking for dynamic and enthusiastic Program Assistants to support teen drop-in and registered programs delivered at youth centres and outreach locations across the community. Program Assistants will help create safe, inclusive, and engaging spaces where teens can connect, explore their interests, and build confidence. Shifts may take place at any of the following locations: Gordon Head Youth Centre, Saanich Commonwealth Youth Centre, Pearkes Youth Centre, Cedar Hill Recreation Centre, as well as in local SD61 and SD63 middle and high schools. In this role, you will assist in supervising participants, support the delivery of meaningful activities, foster a welcoming environment, and maintain positive relationships with youth, families, and coworkers.
Requirements include completion of Grade 10; a minimum of eight weeks of experience working with youth in a recreational, instructional, or daycamp setting; Emergency First Aid and CPR-C; and a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) no older than 6 months. The ideal candidates are enthusiastic, adaptable, and inclusive, with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to build positive relationships with diverse youth. Experience supporting youth with varying needs, including neurodiversity, is considered an asset. Additionally, candidates with experience in specific program areas such as Dungeons & Dragons, cooking and baking, arts and crafts, yoga, Zumba or dance fitness, and general youth social programs will be considered strong assets.
The successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts, including daytime, after school, evenings, and weekends; hours and schedules are subject to change based on program needs. As a component of the selection process, testing may be conducted. While we thank all applicants for applying, only those under consideration will be contacted.
