The Parks Division plays a central role in maintaining and developing Saanich’s diverse park system. Through teamwork, innovation, and sustainability practices, the division ensures that Saanich parks remain vibrant, safe, and well-used year-round.
We are currently seeking Parks Workers II’s to join our team. This position performs a wide range of manual, technical, and operational tasks in areas such as protection of ecosystems and native species, invasive species management, development and maintenance of terrestrial and aquatic restoration sites, operational support for Parks’ Pulling Together volunteer program, and tree planting, watering and care. Duties may include planting, pruning, irrigation, trail building, landscape construction, infrastructure repairs, integrated pest management, and ecological restoration. The role may also involve providing direction to other staff, assisting with layout of work based on plans or schematics, and performing equipment maintenance and record keeping. The successful candidate will bring leadership and teamwork aptitude, hands-on skills, attention to safety, and a strong work ethic to a physically demanding, outdoor environment.
Requirements include completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, one year of experience relevant to the section applied for, and a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence. Candidates must also have: completed three or more accredited courses towards a certificate in environmental studies, environmental sciences, resource management or related field from a recognized-post secondary institution; BC Pesticide Applicators Certificate; Employment is subject to provision of a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) check no older than 6 months. Renewal of PIC-VS is required as per police. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
