Description:

The Engineering Department is at the heart of designing, maintaining, and enhancing the District’s infrastructure and essential services. Within Public Works, the Street Operations section is responsible for the construction and maintenance of above ground infrastructure such as sidewalks and paved roadways. Street Operations is also responsible for responding to winter events by plowing and applying anti-icing treatments to our roadways. 

Saanich Street Operations is seeking two motivated and safety-conscious individuals to work at the Operations Worker II level.  As an Operations Worker II, you will be working as part of a larger team to provide road construction and road maintenance services to the District and its residents.  Typical duties include:  working in and around excavations, sidewalk construction, road rebuilds, paving, paving maintenance, pathway maintenance, and snow removal.  In-house training will be provided for specialized areas of work as pertaining to your job (ie: snow removal

Requirements include Grade 12 or equivalent; two years of experience in Roads Construction and/or Maintenance; The following qualifications must be obtained within six months of hire by successful applicant: Occupational First Aid Level I Certificate; Annual renewal of Drivers' Abstract; Traffic Control Person Certificate; Valid Class 3 BC Driver's Licence with an air brake endorsement. The District may pay future fees associated with an employee's qualifications.

Sufficient health, physical conditioning, strength, stamina, and coordination are needed to permit performance of heavy manual work in all weather conditions. 

The successful candidates will work Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted. Only those under consideration will be contacted.
