The Parks Division is seeking a Natural Areas Practitioner who will be responsible for coordinating, planning and participating in natural areas management, including maintenance, conservation, restoration and enhancements. The successful application will keep up to date on best practices, make recommendations, follow safe work practices and perform work associated with natural areas management as assigned by the Assistant Supervisor of Natural Areas. The Natural Areas Practitioner assists with community engagement in natural areas by supporting the work of the Park Stewardship Coordinator and at times liaises with various internal and external stakeholders. This position also manages projects in natural areas which includes staff direction.
Requirements include: Two year diploma in environmental studies, environmental sciences, natural resource management, ecological restoration, or arboriculture; two years of natural areas management experience including providing direction to others in the natural areas management field; ability to use standardized MS Office software packages; BC Pesticide Applicators Licence; ability to obtain an ISA Certificate within three months, and the ability to obtain an ISA Tree Risk Assessor Qualification Certificate; valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful candidate will work Monday - Friday between 7:00am – 3:30p.m. (40 hours a week). Sufficient health, physical condition, strength, stamina and coordination to perform technical work in all types of weather. In addition to the interview process, testing will be conducted.
