Seeking qualified and versatile aquatic leaders to join the Recreation Division at Gordon Head Recreation Centre. The District is recruiting Instructor III - Aquatics staff who can provide leadership and instruction across our aquatic certification, training, and fitness programs. Candidates must be qualified to deliver programming in all five required aquatic instructional streams.
In this role, you will provide direct instruction, leadership, and program management for a range of aquatic programs. You will plan and deliver first aid courses; National Lifeguard courses; trainer-level courses; and aquatic fitness classes. You will prepare course outlines, instructional spaces, and equipment; welcome and support participants; provide accurate and enthusiastic feedback; maintain attendance records and reports; and help ensure facilities and equipment are safe, clean, and ready for use.
Requirements include completion of Grade 12, together with at least three months of experience in the applicable instructional area. You must hold certification and training, in accordance with industry standards, in these aquatic instructional streams: First Aid Instructor through the Lifesaving Society or Canadian Red Cross; National Lifeguard Instructor; Trainer qualifications to deliver trainer-level courses within the Lifesaving Instructor, First Aid Instructor, and National Lifeguard streams; and Aquafit Instructor. Emergency First Aid and CPR “C” certification are required, as applicable. Employment is subject to provision of a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) check no older than six months; renewal is required as per policy.
The successful candidates will be required to work varying hours of work as operationally required; hours and shifts are subject to change. You will demonstrate strong knowledge of the program area and the ability to instruct in a safe, controlled, and organized manner, while delivering excellent service to participants and working cooperatively with colleagues and the public.
