Description:

The District of Saanich is seeking a Community Engagement Specialist-Transportation to join our dynamic Transportation and Development Services team. This position plays a key role in connecting Saanich’s transportation goals with the community by leading engagement, outreach, and communications activities related to transportation policy and infrastructure.

In this role, you will develop and implement engagement strategies, translate technical information into plain language, prepare content for social media and public communications, and collaborate closely with both technical staff and the Corporate Communications Division. You will also represent the District at community events, respond to public inquiries, and help shape the dialogue around sustainable transportation and active mobility initiatives in Saanich

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in communications, a passion for community engagement, and experience supporting technical teams in delivering impactful public projects. Your ability to build relationships, convey complex ideas clearly, and manage multiple priorities will contribute to the success of Saanich’s evolving transportation network.

Requirements include a university undergraduate degree in Planning, Communications, Public Administration or a related field; three years of experience in communications (preferably supporting transportation projects); superior writing and interpersonal skills; and knowledge of sustainable transportation policy and initiatives. Experience in a local government or public institution setting and knowledge of Canadian Press (CP) style are assets.
