Description:

This is an Employees-Only competition: You must be a current employee of the District of Saanich to be considered.

As a Building Official 3, you will perform advanced office and field inspection work related to building permit processing and construction compliance. Responsibilities include coordinating and prioritizing commercial building permit applications; reviewing plans, applications, and supporting documents for compliance with codes and bylaws; determining inspection protocols and schedules; conducting complex field inspections; participating in the review of alternative building code solutions; providing technical advice and mentorship to other Building Officials; responding to public inquiries and complaints; liaising with owners, contractors, architects, engineers, and regulatory agencies; preparing reports and correspondence; assisting with departmental policy development; and representing the municipality in legal proceedings and regional professional meetings as required.

Requirements include BOABC Level III Certification and Plumbing Level 1 Certification, a degree from a recognized university in engineering or architecture, and a minimum of five years of directly related experience involving building codes, municipal bylaws, and construction inspections, including at least one year of supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required, along with the physical ability to perform both office and field-based duties, including inspections in confined spaces. 

The successful candidate will work, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week).
