The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department – Recreation Division is seeking enthusiastic and safety-focused individuals to join the team at Gordon Head Recreation Centre as Aquatic Instructor II / Lifeguard. This role supports the delivery of aquatic programs and public swim supervision, contributing to a positive and safe recreational experience for participants of all ages.

As an Aquatic Instructor II / Lifeguard, you will be responsible for instructing entry-level aquatic programs, including Lifesaving Society Swim for Life and Canadian Swim Patrol lessons, while also performing lifeguarding duties during public swims. This position involves enforcing pool rules, monitoring patron safety, maintaining facility readiness, responding to emergencies, providing first aid, completing reports, and delivering excellent customer service. You will help promote a friendly and enjoyable aquatic environment and may assist with training or mentoring junior staff and volunteers as required.

Requirements include Grade 10 and a minimum age of 16 years; current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification; current National Lifeguard – Pool Option; current Standard First Aid with CPR-C; and current WorkSafeBC Basic First Aid or higher/equivalent as required. A minimum of three months of related work experience is required, with previous teaching and/or lifeguarding experience considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Employment is subject to the provision of a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS), with renewals required as per policy.
