Walking path closure during pump station electrical upgrades at Mount Tolmie Reservoir
June 15, 2026
News Item
The walking loop around the Mount Tolmie Reservoir will be closed for an extended period this summer to allow for electrical upgrades to be performed on three pump stations. The project also includes the installation of a new generator.
Project impacts
To facilitate this project, which will ensure consistent water service during power outages and emergencies, the walking loop around the reservoir will be closed through the summer.

Further updates will be provided once a reopening date is confirmed.
Project details
The new generator will ensure pump station functionality during power outages and emergencies, enhancing the reliability of our water services. To facilitate these upgrades, five trees will need to be removed. Replacements for bylaw protected trees removed will be provided onsite.
Minimal disruptions are expected for residents, as the generator will only be visible to certain neighbours. While it will emit noise, this will be limited to its operational periods and routine tests, which will occur periodically throughout the year. The generator has been designed with sound attenuation features and will operate with similar sound levels to the existing pump stations.
Additional project details can be accessed on the HelloSaanich project page.
