Saanich, BC – The District of Saanich is advising residents in parts of the municipality that water pressure may be lower than usual while the Capital Regional District (CRD) repairs a leak on a water supply main near Thetis Lake. The supply main runs north through Saanich and extends north towards the other communities on the Saanich Peninsula.

The CRD-owned supply main runs alongside the Trans-Canada Highway near Thetis Lake and provides water to parts of Saanich. Residents in West Saanich, Knockan Hill, Royal Oak, Prospect Lake and other parts of northwest Saanich may experience reduced water pressure while repairs are underway.

Saanich is working with the CRD by transferring some areas normally supplied by this supply main to other sources within Saanich. This will help ensure that adequate water supply can extend to the communities on the Saanich Peninsula.

All Saanich residents are asked to voluntarily limit non-essential water use, including outdoor watering, washing vehicles and other high-water-use activities, until the work is complete. Reducing demand throughout the District will stabilize and maintain water pressures in the impacted areas as well as help ensure we can support water getting to communities further north on the Saanich Peninsula.

Repair work is expected to begin Thursday, September 24.

The District is coordinating with the CRD and monitoring the situation. Updates on repair work, anticipated further impacts and a resolution date will be shared as information becomes available.
