Shape the future of the Interurban Wilkinson intersection

Saanich, BC –The District of Saanich is starting the Interurban Wilkinson Project (IWP) to design and implement significant improvements to the Interurban and Wilkinson intersection.

The project’s first phase includes gathering feedback from residents about challenges, priorities and experiences with the Interurban Wilkinson intersection and general area, as it currently exists.

Public feedback will help guide the project team’s understanding of issues that matter the most and what trade-offs may be required when developing the conceptual design.

Phased approach

The Interurban and Wilkinson intersection is a key part of Saanich’s local and regional transportation network. It’s a complex five-leg intersection that serves people traveling by all modes of transportation and has a long history of congestion, safety concerns, and neighborhood traffic impacts.

The IWP is a multi-phase, multi-year initiative:

• Phase 1 - Public Engagement and Concept Development (2026-2027)
• Phase 2 - Detailed Design (estimated 2028-2029)
• Phase 3 - Construction and Implementation (estimated 2030-2032)

Project background

Phase 1 of the project will include technical analysis, public engagement, and the development and evaluation of concept options to identify a preferred conceptual design.

The scope of the project goes beyond just the intersection. The project team will consider how potential changes could affect nearby streets, transit service, walking and cycling connections, utilities, and access for the surrounding community.

Location: Strawberry Vale Community Club Hall (11 High Street)

Time: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
