Help drive implementation of the Uptown Douglas Plan!

For immediate release

Saanich, BC – Property owners, business operators, community groups and members of the public are invited to share their thoughts on the Uptown Douglas Pre-zoning and Network Design Project. This project is the next step in putting the Uptown Douglas Plan (UDP) into action.

The UDP, adopted in 2022, sets out a vision and policies for turning the area into a mixed-use, walkable neighbourhood with an emphasis on different types of housing, space for jobs and businesses, active transportation, urban design, and climate change.

In this phase of engagement, participants can provide feedback on draft pre-zoning areas and ideas for the future transportation network. This includes a pedestrian-oriented design for Oak Street, zoning that will accommodate a wider range of businesses and housing types, and a location for a future park. Once staff review the feedback, it will help inform refinements to help improve the project.

The end result will be more detailed plans and a predictable regulatory framework to help speed up the creation of more housing, jobs and community spaces in this core area – transforming it into a more complete, people-oriented ‘heart’ of Saanich that is vibrant and inviting, and where people can live, work, shop and get around safely.
