Saanich, BC – Mayor Dean Murdock, members of Saanich Council and community members suited up for the grand opening celebration of the new water slide at Saanich Commonwealth Place (SCP).

Dozens of children and adults joined in on the fun on Saturday, November 29 for the official opening of the long-awaited slide. Mayor Murdock celebrated the occasion by trying it out for himself.

"We’re thrilled to introduce this brand-new slide to our world-class facility. Saanich Commonwealth Place is a beloved destination for countless individuals and families in our community, and we’re confident this new slide will bring joy for years to come,” said Saanich Mayor Dean Murdock.

The new slide replaces the previous one which served the community well for three decades. The new waterslide features colourful, patterned fiberglass sections which makes the ride more exciting and thrilling than ever!

Vancouver-based Whitewater West was selected as the vendor for the slide replacement project through a Request for Proposal process in 2024.

The minimum rider height for the new slide is 102 cm (40”) to allow for younger children to ride it.

All aquatic areas at SCP were recently reopened after an extended closure for maintenance and capital projects, including installation of the new water slide.
