Saanich, BC – The Maynard Park playground in Saanich’s Cadboro Bay neighbourhood is officially open and ready to be enjoyed! A community celebration this past weekend helped get the fun started.
“It was wonderful to see people of all ages join us at the park to celebrate this new playground, which offers more modern, sustainable and accessible features for kids and families to enjoy,” says Saanich Mayor Dean Murdock. “Saanich is blessed with more than 170 parks, including Maynard Park. Upgrading our playgrounds and other public amenities is just one of the ways the District is bringing people together and strengthening community connections.”
Originally installed in 2003, the play equipment at Maynard Park was identified as a priority upgrade due to its age, condition, and other considerations including safety, design, accessibility, drainage and location.
The new playground design includes an innovative and compact play structure for ages 5-12, with a number of modern and accessible features to ensure everyone can enjoy the fun! Sustainable features include a natural play area to encourage kids to interact with biodiversity in the sensory gardens, and tree planting to increase existing shade protection.
The District engaged with residents in Spring 2024, and their feedback helped inform the new playground design.
