Maintenance and Construction Update – Saanich Commonwealth Place

September 11, 2025

The District of Saanich is providing an update on its annual maintenance closure and extended aquatic closure at Saanich Commonwealth Place (SCP). The closures began on August 25, 2025 to allow for annual maintenance and the installation of the new water slide.

The weight room at SCP reopened on September 2, after a brief closure for cleaning.

SCP will reopen the main facility and dry-land spaces for fall programs and activities on Monday September 15, following scheduled annual maintenance.

The reopening of the competition pool, originally scheduled for September 15, is now anticipated to be delayed by up to 6 weeks. An inspection of components in the competition pool has revealed deficiencies which require additional closure time to replace. Saanich Recreation is reaching out to user group partners who will be impacted by this delay.

Meanwhile, other work in aquatic areas is continuing as planned. The south side of the aquatic facility which includes the wave, teach, tots and dive pools, as well as the hot tub, sauna and steam room, remain closed as scheduled for construction of the new water slide and structural remediation work. The anticipated reopening date for these areas is October 27.

The District thanks patrons and high-performance groups for their patience during this work, which will result in a number of important improvements so our community can continue to enjoy this fantastic facility for many years to come.
