Colquitz River Trail crosswalk closure at Mann Avenue for construction
July 18, 2025
Information Bulletin
For immediate release
Saanich, BC – The District is entering the final phase of the Mann Ave Protected Bike Lanes project and constructing a raised crosswalk with improved lighting. Drainage will also be enhanced with this project phase.
The existing crosswalk, connecting the Colquitz River Trail across Mann Avenue, will close to all pedestrian and cyclist traffic starting Monday, July 21 for construction; the closure is anticipated to last up to three weeks. As crews break ground, access will be temporarily closed for the day on Friday, July 18, reopening for the weekend.
Single-lane alternating traffic will be in effect on Mann Ave during construction for vehicle traffic.
Alternate Route and Additional Information:
The District recognizes the temporary inconvenience to residents and visitors and appreciates the cooperation and understanding of the community.
Signage will be in place on the trail to notify pedestrians and cyclists of alternate routes. Please follow all signage and directions in the area.
It is anticipated construction will still be in progress on Tuesday, July 29, when Saanich Parks, Recreation and Community Services hosts the Brydon Park edition of Music in the Park, organized and supported by the Royal Oak Community Association. Please plan routes in advance.
Why are we doing this?
This project builds on last year’s installation of protected bike lanes on Mann Avenue and supports ongoing improvements to the District’s active transportation network. The Colquitz River Trail is a popular multi-use path that acts as a key north-south connector for pedestrians and cyclists, linking nearby parks, residences and the protected bike lanes on Mann Avenue.
The new raised crosswalk will mirror the one recently completed at Mapleton Place, providing additional traffic calming to encourage slower vehicle speeds at this crossing. Rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs) and upgraded lighting will further enhance visibility and safety for all road users.
