Saanich, BC – How do you experience Saanich parks, recreation facilities, programs and community events? Do you feel that they support a healthy environment, healthy people and a healthy community?

Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) wants your valuable input to better serve residents as Saanich grows and evolves — and to inform a new, comprehensive Direction and Action Plan (DAP) to guide the department’s work over the next ten years.

The DAP will replace the department’s previous Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan (2013-2020) which was created in 2012. The new plan will unite new and existing strategies, forming a comprehensive framework with clear objectives and actions, required resources, and corresponding metrics and outcomes. It is expected to be presented to council by late fall of this year.

The Pooni Group, an urban planning and communications company, has been contracted to lead the development of the DAP in consultation with PRCS leaders.

How to provide input

The development of the DAP will include several opportunities for public input and engagement, beginning this month with a public survey on PRCS’ vision and mission statement. The survey launches today and runs through February 5, 2024.

Participants who prefer a paper copy may obtain one at any Saanich recreation centre.

Respondents who complete and submit their surveys by February 5th can choose to enter a draw for a Saanich Recreation prize package.

Further, a pop-up engagement event is scheduled to coincide with the Family Arts Festival, happening on Family Day (February 19, 2024) at Cedar Hill Recreation Centre. Additional engagement opportunities, including a chance to comment on service levels, are planned and will be communicated via PRCS communications channels including the website, Facebook and X.

Vision and Misson

PRCS’ vision is ‘a Saanich where everyone belongs.’ Its mission is ‘healthy nature, healthy people, healthy community.’

We encourage Saanich residents to take part in the survey and other engagement activities, and help us continue to develop and offer welcoming and inclusive experiences for all!
