Saanich facilities closed for rest of the day

Saanich, BC – Due to extreme winter weather, municipal hall, the municipal annex as well as the Engineering building at 3500 Blanshard Street will be closed to the public for the duration of the day.

Our four recreation centres also remain closed for the rest of the day. We plan to re-open as usual tomorrow and will provide updates if extreme weather is affecting our service. Cedar Hill Golf Course and Churchill Drive will remain closed.

Closure notifications and additional information will be posted on the Saanich website and the corporate (Facebook and Twitter) and Parks, Recreation and Community Services (Facebook and Twitter) social media accounts and shared with local media.

Snow removal

Saanich crews are clearing as quickly as possible on a prioritized schedule:

  • Emergency access routes (in communication with Police, Fire, and Ambulance)
  • Major roads (high-volume roads and connectors to our transportation system)
  • Priority bus routes
  • Pre-identified steep residential hills
  • Priority sidewalks on bridges and pedestrian overpasses/underpasses

Public Works updates

  • Crews are out, concentrating on clearing major and collector routes as well as bus shelters
  • All garbage and organics collection is canceled for today. We are asking residents to leave carts out and we will resume collection as soon as conditions allow
  • The garden waste drop off is closed
  • The leaf collection program is suspended until conditions improve
