Have your say on the Draft Cadboro Bay Local Area Plan

Saanich, BC – A series of in-person open houses and a virtual open house are available for the public to learn about, and provide feedback on, the Draft Cadboro Bay Local Area Plan (LAP). The in-person open houses begin on November 13, 2021, and virtual open house material is available now at saanich.ca/cadboro.

The Draft Cadboro Bay LAP has been developed with input from the community to provide a renewed course to guide future growth and change in Cadboro Bay over the next 20 to 30 years.

Saanich has been engaging with the community through community workshops, open houses, design charrettes and a community visioning survey. Over 1,000 instances of public input have contributed to the Draft Plan’s development.

“Together, we’ve created a robust Draft Plan that seeks to retain what’s valued about Cadboro Bay, while looking to expand housing options, respond to climate change, improve active transportation routes and enhance the Cadboro Bay Village, said District of Saanich Mayor Fred Haynes. “I want to thank everyone who participated in this process to date and encourage you to continue to contribute your feedback to help shape Cadboro Bay’s future.”

Residents are now invited to share their thoughts about what they like, what they would change and what may be missing from the Draft Cadboro Bay Local Area Plan.

Highlights of the Draft Local Area Plan include:

  • Maintaining and enhancing the unique character of the Cadboro Bay Village.
  • Allowing opportunities to incrementally expand shops and services in the village.
  • Providing more housing forms in the village, suitable for all ages and stages of life.
  • Improving transportation links and pedestrian and cycling facilities.
  • Planning for sea-level rise and climate change impacts.
  • Enhancing Gyro Park as an integral part of the community.
  • Recognizing First Nations culture and history.
  • Maintaining the semi-rural character of Queenswood and Ten Mile Point neighbourhoods.
  • Supporting UVic and other institutions as vital parts of the community.

As with all previous phases, staff will carefully review all input received on the Draft LAP. A proposed LAP will then be finalized, fully illustrated and formatted, and presented to Council for consideration of formal adoption into the District’s Official Community Plan.
