Saanich installs second rink de-aerator at Pearkes Recreation Centre

November 19, 2019

The District has taken advantage of a FortisBC rebate and have added our second rink de-aerator. Adding these de-aerators to a hot water system helps remove micro air bubbles and increase heat transfer. In a pilot program testing this technology, indoor ice rinks could use lower water temperatures for ice resurfacing, saving energy and creating a harder, smoother ice surface that requires less maintenance.

We are reducing our footprint by utilizing this technology to flood the rinks with cold water, rather than the traditional hot-water method. As you can imagine, flooding a rink takes a lot of hot water!
