Saanich mourns passing of Councillor Vic Derman

Saanich, BC ‒ On behalf of the District of Saanich, Mayor Richard Atwell has issued the following statement on the passing of Saanich councillor Vic Derman:

“I am shocked and saddened to hear of Vic Derman’s passing. This is a profound loss for Saanich and tragic news for our community.

“When I think of Vic Derman, two words come to mind: passion and commitment.

“Vic engaged with people in a way that made them feel important and heard. He was a passionate steward and advocate for the environment, and always worked towards making the world a better place. In that regard, Vic led by example – something for all of us to aspire to.

“Vic devoted his retirement to serving our community. He was a long-serving member and integral part of Saanich council, and his accomplishments were plentiful. Vic was more than just a colleague – he was an inspiration.

“My thoughts are with Vic’s family and friends. Vic was a proud husband, father, friend, teacher, community leader and mentor. His legacy will live on in Saanich for years to come.”
