The Fjord Project
About the Artwork
The Fjord Project is inspired by the idea that we are all connected to each other, to all living beings, and to the planet that provides for us. Over many years I have visited the vertiginous walls of the Saguenay Fjord near Tadoussac, Quebec. Seen up close, the rock walls, sculpted by glaciers and eroded by tides, provide a unique perspective of the natural world we inhabit. The forms and colours create fantastical worlds; I cannot help noticing within their complex patterns and colours, shapes and forms that resemble living creatures, faces and bodies that seem to emerge from within the rock cliffs.

About the Artist
I have been making art for as long as I can remember. As a child I drew and painted, made sculptures and constructions, and made photographs with an ancient box camera. Over time I have been influenced by all kinds of artists and philosophies of artistic expression. For 25 years, I designed and built sets, photographed actors’ headshots, and designed posters for the senior drama productions at my local high school. This experience reinforced my belief that artistic expression is not only valuable but essential, providing people with confidence, community, and a voice. I work in various media, including painting, drawing, video and music. I have continued my studies informally and recently participated in an overseas study program in Poland.

Imagination Meets Reality
About the Artwork/Artist
I've been an artist my whole life and have recently been adopting a unique style that blends nature with imagination with colourful compositions full of life. I tend to blend painting with paint marker drawings as well as black and white marker drawings on paper. I've never had my work displayed in a gallery before and I'm eager to share my stuff with the world.

About the Display
For Remembrance Day 2026, Saanich Archives honours local nurses, the Red Cross, and the popular canine celebrity – Muggins – for the role they played in World War I. Between caring for the sick, tending to the wounded, and raising money for all those affected by the war, come learn about their efforts both in Saanich and abroad. We are proud to display Muggins’ medals, introduce you to some of our nursing sisters, and show how members of community rallied together to help fund aid for Canadian soldiers. The Remembrance Day exhibit, If you can’t give a life, then save a life, is on display from October 21 – November 11, 2026.
Saanich Archives celebrates BC Archives Awareness Week this year with a display exploring the theme of "AI and Archives". How do archives use AI? Should they? What are the advantages and disadvantages of AI use in an archive? How is the integrity of archives as a primary source of history affected by AI use in society? We hope to answer some of these questions and raise others in this display. Archives Awareness Week runs November 15 to 21st , but the display will be available for viewing November 12 - 30, 2026.
