About the Artwork

Ice Cream for Breakfast invites viewers into a world where artistic boundaries dissolve and imagination takes center stage. Featuring a dynamic collection of sculptures, paintings, and textiles by 17 talented artists of the Garth Homer ArtWorks program, the exhibition celebrates off-the-wall art that defies convention.

Through bold experimentation and the playful juxtaposition of mediums, these artists challenge traditional aesthetics, inviting audiences to explore with curiosity and openness. The result is a visually captivating and thought-provoking experience that encourages viewers to embrace the unexpected. 

About the Artists

ArtWorks, a program at Garth Homer Society offers, provides a supportive art studio environment for a current collective of seventeen artists with diverse abilities. Much like a typical art studio, the ArtWorks program provides a place for the artists to gather, create, inspire, and share ideas while also participating in the art community of Greater Victoria. Clients have shown their work in a variety of locations such as the Cedar Hill Rec Centre and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.

If you are ever in the Government Street and Chatham area downtown, please come and view the artwork displayed in the windows and give the clients a wave; they love showing their work.

Jody Blair – solo exhibit
A Curious Collection: Woodland, Whimsy & A Little Weirdness

About the Artwork/Artist

Jody Blair has been a creator of little treasures for as long as she can remember, exploring different materials, traditions and techniques along the way. Her creative journey has included traditional pine needle basket weaving, taught to her by her mother who learned from a First Nations Elder; Ukrainian pysanky, reflecting her own Ukrainian heritage; traditional tole painting; and even building detailed 1:12 miniatures from scratch. Jody discovered pottery in 2017, starting on the wheel before eventually finding her creative home in hand-building in 2023. Rather than settling into one particular style, she follows her curiosity wherever it leads.

Inspired by nature, imagination and a fondness for the unusual, her work wanders from earthy and woodland-inspired to colourful, whimsical and occasionally a little strange. She creates under the name Zombie Mom Pottery and shares her home and creative life with her son, three cats and a tortoise, who provide plenty of inspiration and absolutely no useful studio assistance.

About the Artwork / Artists:

ArtWorks is an artist development program for emerging and established artists. Participants engage in a supported studio environment where they can refine their artistic skills, experiment with different mediums, and exhibit their work.

Artists spend each day working on their art, experimenting with different mediums, and refining their techniques in a professional supported studio setting. The atmosphere is relaxed yet focused, allowing participants to work at their own pace while receiving hands-on support from staff who are skilled, practicing artists. These mentors provide guidance, demonstrations, and constructive feedback to help artists push their creative boundaries and bring their visions to life.  For 2026, the ArtWorks Program will be showcasing a variety of different art in this display case, changing every 8 weeks as part of a partnership with Saanich Community Services and Cedar Hill Recreation Centre.
