Main Gallery – Corina Fischer
The Great Camus Walk
About the Artwork:
The Great Camas Walk centers around themes of ecological restoration, belonging, and decolonial allyship. Weaving past, present, and future landscapes; the walk is a multi-day undertaking traversing over 60km of roads and trails in the Greater Victoria Area. The walk links together patches of parklands that hold the memory of the sweeping Garry Oak and Camas meadows cultivated by Lekwungen and WSANEC peoples for uncounted generations prior to colonial occupation. The exhibit offers a sense of scale, highlighting the loss of over 98% of the historical oak meadows in the CRD, and the state of the remaining meadowlands. It ponders my role as a settler body inhabiting these territories as one inherently implicated in their destruction, but wishing for their wellness, and examines the role and responsibilities of settler allies in decolonizing the landscape and reestablishing. This exhibit is dedicated to the artist Tasha Diamant.

About the Artist:
Corina Fischer (they/she) is a queer settler and multidisciplinary arts practitioner who grew up on the unceded territories of the Lekwungen and WSANEC peoples. A maker of art, music, and performance from a young age, they studied at UVIC, earning a BFA in Theatre (2021). Since then, they have worked in nature education, community organizing, and on local theatre productions as well as delved into their own performance, photography, and painting practices. They value decolonial and land-space-place based ways of knowing and learning, collaboration, and care-based forms of creative exploration. Some of Corina’s recent arts-based work includes collaborating as an outside artist with William Head Onstage, directing Humans of Fairy Creek at Vancouver Fringe 2024, and the piles upon piles of little watercolours they painted out on hikes this past summer

About the Artwork / Artist:
Art within the Archives is a small exhibit by the Saanich Archives explores and celebrates different art forms within the 20th Century. Some will be very familiar to audiences - such as sketching in pencil or pen, using water colours or pastels. Others may be relatively foreign - such as colourized or painted photographs, which were an early exploration of photo manipulation that existed long before social media. The exhibit will feature items from notable historic Saanich artists, such as Annie Girling and the Goward family, as well as items from other local families whose members explored their creativity in a variety of different mediums across the decades.

Hallway Case 2 – Garth Homer Artworks Program
Year of the Horse
About the Artwork / Artists:
ArtWorks is an artist development program for emerging and established artists. Participants engage in a supported studio environment where they can refine their artistic skills, experiment with different mediums, and exhibit their work.
Artists spend each day working on their art, experimenting with different mediums, and refining their techniques in a professional supported studio setting. The atmosphere is relaxed yet focused, allowing participants to work at their own pace while receiving hands-on support from staff who are skilled, practicing artists. These mentors provide guidance, demonstrations, and constructive feedback to help artists push their creative boundaries and bring their visions to life. For 2026, the ArtWorks Program will be showcasing a variety of different art in this display case, in partnership with Saanich Community Services and Cedar Hill Recreation Centre.
