The Engineering Department – Public Works Division – Waterworks Section is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join their team as a Utility Operator IV. This position plays a key leadership role, responsible for supervising and participating in the work of a crew carrying out installation, rehabilitation, repair, inspection and testing of water systems. Our Waterworks section is dedicated to providing safe and reliable drinking water to the community while adhering to environmental protocols and best practices in utility maintenance and construction.

The Utility Operator IV performs a wide variety of operational and supervisory duties related to potable water systems, including project planning, material requisitions, site safety meetings, public interaction, and training of staff. The successful candidate will be expected to provide technical recommendations to improve system efficiency and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Proficiency in field-based GIS software, incident response, and safety protocols is essential for this role, which works outdoors in all weather conditions and responds to emergency calls for service.

Requirements include: Grade 12 or equivalent; EOCP Level II Certification for Water Distribution; four years of pipefitting experience in water systems including project management, and two years of supervisory experience related to maintenance or construction in a water utility setting; supervisory skills training; proficiency in field-based GIS software; and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Completion of technical training related to water systems, construction, estimating, and project management is considered an asset.

The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week) and must have versatility; manual dexterity; and sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to work in all weather conditions.
